Overview
Pointfix connects a running iOS simulator app, Android app or web page to a coding-agent CLI on your Mac. Point at an element, describe the change, and the agent edits your code. Pointfix rebuilds or reloads the app, and you decide what to keep.
What Pointfix is
Pointfix is a local developer tool for macOS. A small server, the bridge, runs in your app’s repository. Reporters in your app (or the Mac app’s Simulator panel) send it a report: your request, a screenshot, and context about the element you selected. The bridge hands the report to the agent you chose, such as Claude Code or Codex, which edits files in the repository. You then review the result.
- No account or pairing. There is no Pointfix sign-up, online service or token. The bridge listens on
127.0.0.1unless you turn on remote access. - Your agent, your login. Agents run with their own CLI sign-in. The agent still talks to its own model provider, as it does when you use it directly: local execution does not mean offline inference.
- You review every change. Nothing is committed unless you choose Commit fix or turn on Auto-commit.
The fix loop
Capture → Queue → Agent edits → Checks → Rebuild / relaunch → Review → Commit, request changes or revert
- Point. Long-press an element for 0.6 seconds in the iOS simulator or Android app, target it from the Mac app’s Simulator panel, or Alt + Shift + click it on a web page.
- Describe. Type what should change. A category chip (Spacing, Color, Text, Size, Layout, Other) is optional. The screenshot and element context are attached for you.
- Agent fixes. With Auto mode on (the default), the report runs immediately. The agent edits the repository; the bridge runs your configured check command and, with Auto-relaunch on, rebuilds and relaunches the app or reloads the page.
- You decide. Compare the Before and Proposed screenshots, read the diff, then choose Review & commit, Request changes or Revert.
Each step is described in The review workflow.
Components
| Component | What it does |
|---|---|
| Bridge | A Node.js server started with pointfix start in your repository. It stores reports, runs the agent and your workflow commands one report at a time, and serves the dashboard. Default port 4747. Data lives in .pointfix/. |
| Dashboard | The web interface at http://127.0.0.1:4747: the report inbox, Connections (SDK snippets and agents) and Preferences (agent, model, automation, relaunch targets). |
| Mac app | Pointfix.app, from pointfix.dev/download: a native window for the dashboard, plus the floating Simulator panel for targeting elements in the iOS Simulator. |
| iOS SDK | The PointfixKit Swift package (pointfix-ios): long-press capture, composer and progress in Debug simulator builds. See iOS simulator. |
| Android SDK | dev.pointfix:pointfix-android on Maven Central, for Views and Jetpack Compose, with a no-op artifact for Release builds. See Android. |
| Web SDK | @pointfix/web on npm, or the browser.js script the bridge serves, for any development web page. See Web. |
Quick start
- Install Pointfix and an agent. Download the Mac app from pointfix.dev/download and install the command:
Sign in to a coding-agent CLI such as Claude Code (brew install pointfix-dev/tap/pointfixclaude auth login) or Codex (codex login). Details are in Install and set up. - Set up your repository. In your app’s repository, run:
It detects iOS, Android and web projects and the agents on yourpointfix initPATH, writespointfix.config.json, adds.pointfix/to.gitignore, and prints the SDK snippet for each platform. - Check your setup.
pointfix doctor - Start the bridge.
Openpointfix starthttp://127.0.0.1:4747(or runpointfix open, or openPointfix.app). Choose the agent and model in Preferences. - Add the SDK and send a report. Add the SDK package and the snippet
initprinted to a debug build (iOS, Android, web), or use the Simulator panel. Run the app, point at an element and describe the change. Follow it in the app’s progress pill or the dashboard, then review it.
Try the samples
The pointfix-samples repository has a ready-to-run shop app for iOS, Android and web, each using the published SDKs and each with one intentional UI flaw to practise on. Clone it, run pointfix start at its root, and open any sample.
Current limits
- Reports run one at a time per bridge. Agents edit your working tree directly; isolated Git worktrees are not provided.
- iOS capture works in the simulator only, not on physical devices.
- A successful agent run or app relaunch does not prove the change looks right. The final visual check is always yours.
